Arithmetic, Geometric and Power series. Permutations and combinations. Binomial theorem. Theory of quadratic equations. Inequalities. Complex numbers. Elementary set theory and functions. Vectors and matrices. Determinant, rank and inverse of a matrix. Solutions of linear equations.

Straight lines, circles, parabolas, ellipses and hyperbolas.

Countable and uncountable sets. Open and closed sets in R. Taylor and Maclaurin series. Sequences, limits, continuity of functions of one real variable. Differentiation and integration of functions of one real variable with applications. Definite integrals. Areas using integrals. Maxima and minima and their applications.

Elementary probability, conditional probability, Bayes' Theorem, Mean and variance.

ELIGIBILTY

In order to be eligible for this programme one must have a graduate degree in any subject and mathematics at the (10+2 or equivalent) level

NOTES AND STUDY MATERIALS

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Students of this course will be selected, on the basis of their mathematical skills, through

(a) an online test administered through Coursera, or
b) a written test conducted by ISI.


Two batches of students will be selected every year through channel

(a), and only one batch through channel
(b). Some candidates shortlisted from channel
(b) will be offered tuition waiver on the basis of subsequent interview.
