ABOUT THE
COURSE
A Master’s in Economics is a two-year full-time program that includes both compulsory and elective papers, with the latter also referred to as optional papers. The medium of instruction and examination for this program is English.
The university conducts an entrance examination to assess the candidates' proficiency and expertise in several fundamental areas of Economics, including:
(a) Microeconomics
(b) Macroeconomics
(c) Mathematical Economics
(d) Probability, Statistics, and Elementary Econometrics
The eligibility for appearing in the entrance exam for M.A. Economics (with specialization in the world economy) is either a:
​
i) Bachelor’s degree (with 50% marks in aggregate) in the following subjects: Economics (Honours) with Mathematics as a subsidiary subject; or Mathematics (Honours) with Economics as a subsidiary subject; or Statistics (Honours) with Mathematics and Economics as subsidiary subjects.

1. Candidate must have secured 60% aggregate marks in BA Economics.

2. Candidates should have 60% or 1st division or equivalent CGPA in any UG/PG degree in any subject along with clearing the entrance marks with minimum qualifying marks set by the university/ college.
M.Sc. Economics and M.Phil./PhD in Development Studies.
For the M.Sc. Economics program, candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree with at least 55% marks in Economics and 60% in other subjects.
For the M.Phil. and PhD in Development Studies programs, candidates must hold a postgraduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks in Economics and 60% in other subjects.

Academic Requirement: An undergraduate degree is essential.
Minimum Marks Requirement: Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for reserved category candidates) at the graduation level.
Result Awaiting Candidates: Those in the final year of their undergraduate studies and awaiting results may also apply.
However, to be considered for admission, their results must be submitted by their respective universities to the Institute, preferably by fax or speed post, on or before the specified schedule.
The Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) requires a minimum of 55% marks for General category students. For SC, ST, OBC, and PWD category students, the minimum required marks are 50%. Please note that some courses may have different cut-offs for OBC candidates, so it is important to refer to the specific course details for accurate information.

The eligibility criteria for M.A. courses at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) are as follows:

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. This requirement applies to specializations including English, Philosophy, Telugu, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Comparative Literature, Urdu, Political Science, and Applied Linguistics.
The minimum eligibility requirements for the BHU PET are as follows:
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.
- There are no age restrictions for applicants.
- Applicants must be Indian nationals.
- For admission to an M.A. program in a language, candidates must have studied the respective language at the undergraduate level.
- No minimum eligibility marks are required for SC/ST candidates.
- OBC and Physically Challenged candidates must have at least 45% marks in their degree examination.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years in duration) in any discipline.
- Have completed the 12th standard examination with Mathematics as a subject.
